It was just a few days after burying my Nanny White that I decided to go through with my commitment to compete in
Miss Vinton Dogwood Festival. It was the hardest thing to do. I sang my signature song, "Smile," and it meant more than ever. I ended up winning the interview award, the swimsuit award and the talent award and once again, thought I was First Runner-Up (because a Top 10 competitor was in the pageant as well). As you can see, I won the title of
Miss Vinton Dogwood Festival 1992! I found out later that I also won the evening gown award.
